XMM-Newton Studies of a New Sample of Young X-ray Emitting Galactic SNRs

We propose to study a small sample of Galactic supernova remnants thatwe have recently discovered to be Xray emitters. The sample consistsof ejectadominated SNRs as well as ones with normal composition. Theproposed XMM observations will be an order of magnitude deeper thanexisting Xray data. The specific goals of the XMM study are to (1)measure accurate values for the elemental abundances, (2) determinethe evolutionary state of the remnants from their Xray emissionproperties (e.g., temperature, ionization timescale, flux), and (3)search for hard Xray sources that might be pulsars or embeddedplerions. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
