Locating lignin in nanocellulose-based materials: a scoping review of measurement approaches for content, spatial distribution, surface coverage, and interfacial binding

This dataset accompanies the scoping review “Locating lignin in nanocellulose-based materials: a scoping review of measurement approaches for content, spatial distribution, surface coverage and interfacial binding” (Muttaqin AN, Mihdar UH, Suyuti MA, Nurhidayanti N; submitted to Cellulose). Contents: Search records — bibliographic records exported on 28 October 2026 from Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, IEEE Xplore and Taylor & Francis Online (18,101 records; identifiers, titles, authors, year, source and DOI). Deduplication log — 12,570 duplicates removed (12,527 by DOI, 43 by title and year), leaving 5,531 unique records. Screening register — title/abstract decisions of two independent reviewers (ANM, UHM) with exclusion reasons (4,514 excluded, 1,017 retained), and the full-text audit of the 1,017 reports (104 excluded with reasons; 913 eligible). Charting data (Online Resource 3) — claim-level charting and measurement-validity judgements (D1–D5) for the 51 reports charted in depth. Eligible-report map (Online Resource 4) — title/abstract classification of all 914 eligible reports by measurement target, method family and material type. Code — Python scripts used to draw Figs. 1, 3 and 10 from the charted data. The working protocol was not registered. Large language models were used to assist record reconciliation, charting drafts and the title/abstract classification; all decisions were checked by the authors.
