Expression data from developing pericarp in Sorghum bicolor

We conducted an exploratory transcriptomic analysis of developing pericarp in the black sorghum genotype exposed to different light spectra to gain insight into the signal transduction which triggers production of 3-deoxyanthocyanidin. Based on the upregulation of a suite of genes in black pericarp, we propose that black sorghum grain tissue is hypersensitive to UVB-induced cellular stress, which initiates the production of 3-deoxyanthocyanidins and these compounds may serve a physiological role in epidermal protection to the developing grain.
