Miles of habitat opened to fish passage are calculated using the Chesapeake Bay Fish Passage Prioritization Tool. Using this GIS-based tool, the available upstream miles for each removed blockage are calculated and counted toward the Indicator. Chesapeake Bay Fish Passage Prioritization Tool data are updated every two years; this process includes adding newly discovered stream barriers, such as road-stream crossings identified through field surveys conducted by the North Atlantic Aquatic Connectivity Collaborative.</p><p><strong>Note: This Indicator supported progress tracking toward the Fish Passage Outcome in the original Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement, adopted in 2014. The Watershed Agreement and Fish Passage Outcome were revised in 2025.</strong></p>
