Phage resistant mechanism of Staphylococcus aureus SA003 against phage phiSA012. Staphylococcus aureus

Phage resistance mechanism of Staphylococcus aureus is not well reported in genomic level. Therefore, whole genome analysis of S. aureus and its phage resistant derivative is analyzed in this study. The goal of this study is to identify host gene of S. aureus SA003 that contribute to phage resistance against Twort-like phage phiSA012. By revealing the phage resistance mechanism, host recognition mechanism of Twort-like phages particularly phiSA012 is expected to be elucidated as well. Understanding host gene that endows phage resistance may give a proper strategy to apply phage therapy in real condition. Moreover, this finding can provide substantial information before we expand the utility of staphylococcal Twort-like phages for practical use.
