Living Shorelines Suitability Modeling (LSSM) in Pointe-au-Chien Louisiana from 2024-01-06 to 2025-10-31

The Living Shorelines Suitability Model (LSSM) was developed with this project is a geospatial model to delineate preferred alternatives (nature-based solutions) to erosion control in Pointe-au-Chien, Louisiana. The LSSM's primary purpose was to encourage and expand the use of living shoreline treatments to counter shoreline erosion in the area. It will be used to help determine the most suitable shorelines to use “living shoreline” designs to control coastal erosion in selected areas determined through input provided by the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe and its external partners. Geospatial datasets used as input into the model will include representing features such as: Coastal land use, bathymetry, bank height, offshore structures, submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) presence, roads, canals, cultural sites, terraces, sea-level rise, subsidence, historical land loss, traditional ecological knowledge (TEK), etc. This dataset includes a map of structures and management recommendations, a document describing the parameters, and a description of the metadata.
