ATP8B1 is a type-4 P-type ATPase that maintains lipid balance by translocating phospholipids, such as phosphatidylserine, from the outer to the inner leaflets of membrane bilayers. ATP8B1 also transports cardiolipin, a mitochondrial membrane phospholipid ({11:Ray et al., 2010}).
