The Gay Apex: A Note on the Writing The Gay Apex gathers the three acts of The George Files into a single volume. Each act was written by hand in Google Docs, keystroke by keystroke, and its history was captured by Process Feedback, a tool that reconstructs the full editing record of a document from its revision data. Taken together, the three manuscripts run to roughly 62,900 words and 353,000 characters, built across about 29 hours 42 minutes of active writing, 531 recorded checkpoints, and more than 152,000 individual editing actions. The first keystroke was logged on 21 December 2025 and the final revision on 27 August 2026, so the whole project spans close to eight months. The three acts were drafted in distinct rhythms. On Arrival came first, opening on 21 December 2025 and reaching its revised second edition on 26 March 2026, with the December draft set aside and returned to for a polish in the spring. Manhattan, Imagined arrived in a single concentrated burst between 3 and 9 January 2026, six days that produced the longest act at just over 23,000 words. Too British, Not Queer Enough followed in an even tighter window, written across five days from 3 to 8 February 2026. Each act was composed as its own document before any of them were brought together. One pattern holds across all three. The record leans firmly towards building rather than cutting, at a steady ratio of roughly eight insertions for every deletion. That balance points to prose written forward and tidied in place rather than salvaged from a much longer draft, and it stays consistent whether the act was drafted over five days or across three months. The most-typed names shift as the story moves, from an even spread of Adam, Charlie and George in the first act to George dominating the third, a small trace of how the narrator's world narrows as the New York chapter closes. This omnibus file itself was assembled afterwards, between 7 February and 27 August 2026, by placing the three finished manuscripts into one document and reading through to polish the seams. Its own keystroke count is therefore small and its recorded typing speed unusually high, because the words already existed as completed acts rather than being typed fresh. The full drafting history lives in the three individual act records; this volume is where they were joined into one.
