Assessment of clinical and laboratory predictors of severe dengue among laboratory confirmed dengue patients

Background Dengue is an important mosquito-borne viral infection that causes a wide spectrum of illness, ranging from mild febrile disease to severe dengue with plasma leakage, severe bleeding, shock and organ dysfunction. The transition from non-severe to severe disease can occur rapidly, particularly around the critical phase of illness. Early recognition of warning signs and laboratory abnormalities is therefore essential for appropriate monitoring, timely fluid management and prevention of complications.
