The dwarfs of the Ring: Star Formation around Kappa Ori explored with XMM-Newton

One of the mechanisms proposed for causing the collapse of a gas cloud and startstar formation is the action of an external agent that can compress the gas andcreate the primordial protostellar cores (Elmegreen 1998). While supernovae arethe most dramatic agents, stellar winds from massive stars and the expansion ofionized HII bubbles may play an important role. They can transfer momentum,kinetic energy and heat a closeby gas cloud. A few cases have been identifiedwhere massive stars are responsible of triggered star formation (RCW79, Zavagnoet al. 2006, Sharpless 104, Deharveng et al., 2003). With this XMM proposal, weaim to understand the interaction at work between one single massive star, KappaOri, and Lynds 1641 (L1641), the filamentary cloud in the southern part of the OrionvirgulA cloud. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
