England Unmonitored CSOs 2020

This dataset shows those combined sewage overflows (CSOs) which are not actively monitored by the Water companies in England/The Environment Agency. To create this layer, the English Event Duration Monitoring Data was joined to the English Consented Discharges Database to calculate those CSOs which were not located using matching permit numbers in the annual return EDM data provided by the EA for 2020. The CSOs which were located were then removed from this layer to leave those that are unmonitored. CABA IDs have been added to this layer.You can access the Consented Discharges to Controlled Waters with Conditions database for England on data.gov.uk. Permit numbers were used to extract locations from the Consented Discharges to Controlled Waters database in order to extract the location. The data used here is an extract of the Consented Discharges to Controlled Waters database from the Environment Agency's Public Register and attributed with CABA Catchment IDs. It is a public record of all permits required under the Environmental Permit Regulation and covers all substances that are controlled. This extract has been filtered to only those permits listed as active in the consented discharges database, and that are discharging sewage, and that are not included in the EDM returns for the English water companies. Permit numbers have been provided to allow users to cross reference with the Environment Agency's Public Register, which provides details of permit details as required under the Environmental Permit Regulations. Quality Control The Rivers Trust has endeavoured to clean, check and interpret the data, but cannot be held responsible for any missing or inaccurate data. Locations for the English data were provided by The Environment Agency, points in the sea may be long-sea outfalls or they may be errors in the data. Please contact the Environment Agency with specific location queries. Water companies, citizen scientists and others are welcome to contact us to notify any known data errors on specific overflows and we will flag these in the map popups.
