An asymmetric direct aldol reaction of acetoacetals is described. Under the catalysis of a simple chiral primary amine, the direct aldol reactions of acetoacetals occur exclusively on the γ-position to give vinylogous-type aldol products with high diastereo- and enantioselectivity.
