The X-ray Spectra of Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies openParULIRGsclosePar

Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies are fundamentally r^ant to a wide range ofastronomical issues. However, the power source for the huge infrared luminosityis uncertain: it could be a starburst.. or an active galactic nucleus and weargue that Xray observations provide the best method of resolving this issue.We have observed a sample of 14 ULIRGs with Chandra. These galaxies werecarefully chosen to sample the full range of galaxy properties, rather than thebrightest or best known examples. With XMM we will obtain spectra of the 8galaxies in our Chandraobserved sample which have not been observed by XMM, andthen make a comprehensive study of the Xray properties of the full sample,using both XMM and Chandra observations. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
