PRT Fixed Guideway Station Walksheds

This layer depicts the service area walksheds for existing and future PRT fixed guideway stations, defined as the area within a half mile (ten minute walk) of a busway, rail, incline, or BRT station. Stations are coded as active (current passenger service), inactive (former passenger service), temporary (detour service), or future (under construction). A station is a passenger facility located on PRT's fixed guideway network. A station may be a single platform, a pair of low-platform stops, or a group of connected platforms serving multiple modes. Stations with both bus and rail service (e.g. South Hills Junction) have unique records for each mode. A fixed guideway means "a public transportation facility that uses and occupies a separate right-of-way or rail line for the exclusive use of public transportation and other high occupancy vehicles.” (49 CFR 611.105 “Fixed guideway”). PRT fixed guideways include the East, West, and South Busways; the Monongahela Incline; the Pittsburgh Light Rail ('T') system; and the future Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) University Line. Other fixed guideway facilities include the I279/579 HOV lane and on-street bus lanes. This layer is updated as needed to reflect changes to service and/or capital facilities.
