The effects of intestinal microbiome in the pathogenesis of PD-related peritoneal fibrosis have not been studied. The profile of intestinal microbiota alters in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), and this alteration persists even after the patients receiving maintenance dialysis. In the current study, we conducted animal experiments to explore the effects of intestinal microbiota in the development of peritoneal fibrosis in the setting of PD.
