By analyzing the Ship Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI), the energy conservation status of ships can be evaluated more scientifically and accurately. By collecting and analyzing EEOI data, ship operators can identify potential energy conservation and emission reduction measures, thereby improving ship operational efficiency and economic benefits. Meanwhile, reducing EEOI can also mitigate the environmental impact of ships, protect the marine ecological environment, and promote sustainable development. Governments and international organizations around the world can use the EEOI indicator to grasp the overall status of environmental protection, energy conservation and emission reduction. Seafarers can understand the voyage energy efficiency status through EEOI values, and adjust their operational behaviors during navigation based on EEOI data, such as optimizing sailing speed and reasonably arranging cargo loading, so as to reduce ship energy consumption and emissions, which helps enhance the environmental awareness of the entire shipping industry. A lower EEOI value of a ship indicates higher operational energy efficiency of the vessel. Fuel consumption, cargo load and voyage distance of each voyage are collected and recorded through the ship's built-in fuel consumption monitor and log. The collected data are preprocessed (e.g., supplementing missing values), and the fuel consumption for each single voyage is calculated as: Fuel Consumption = Cumulative Fuel Consumption at Termination - Initial Fuel Consumption. The Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) for each voyage is then calculated as: EEOI per Voyage = (Fuel Consumption × CO₂ Emission Conversion Factor) / (Current Cargo Load × Current Segmented Voyage Distance), where the CO₂ emission conversion factor is 0.714 tons of standard coal per ton of diesel. The average Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) is calculated as: Average EEOI = (Cumulative Fuel Consumption at Termination × CO₂ Emission Conversion Factor) / (Total Cumulative Cargo Load × Total Cumulative Voyage Distance).
