This is the EBOD dataset (= Austrian digital soil map, which consists essentially of the transfer of all the graphically and textually available information of the soil mapping carried out systematically since 1958 into a geographical information system) which has been extended by one column per soil function each. Floor functions: The classification of the soil type groups takes place according to the Austrian soil mapping. Natural soil fertility — The importance of this soil partial function increases when considering the competition for use between food, feed and raw material production produced on the same (limited) land. High yields can be achieved in an environmentally friendly manner, especially on soils with a high natural yield capacity. The nutrient and water balance, the soil structure, climatic conditions and possible yield-reducing soil parameters are included in the evaluation. On the other hand, extreme yield-enhancing influences such as melting, fertilisation, etc. as well as operational structural influences (impact size, manageability) do not or at most indirectly occur. Location for soil organisms — The aim of the study is to preserve the diversity of soil organisms and their communities. The suitability of soil as a habitat for soil organisms is assessed. Community — each soil is assigned a soil biologically defined community. For very acidic, dry or wet soils, the method does not allow allocation. Drainage regulation — The soil’s ability to absorb precipitation water and its time-delayed controlled release to the atmosphere, vegetation, pre-floods or groundwater is assessed. Filters and buffers for pollutants — The performance of a soil as a filter and buffer for pollutants is derived for the three groups heavy metals, organic pollutants and acids. Determining elements are the characteristics of the soil condition. Location potential for natural plant societies — In principle, each soil has a function as a site for natural vegetation, i.e. according to its natural location conditions, it offers the prerequisites for the development of specific vegetation societies. The rarity and thus the (natural) importance of a plant society can be very different regionally. Depending on the regional nature of the site, locations without extreme location conditions can also be of great importance for the development of specific vegetation societies.
