The provisions of the Renewable Energy Directive II (RED II) are implemented in three regulations in Austria. These regulate the sustainability criteria for agricultural (NLAV) and forest biomass (NFBioV) and the use of these sustainably produced biomass fuels for the production of electricity and/or heat/cold (BMEN-VO). This guide provides guidance to operators using agricultural and forestry biomass to meet the sustainability and greenhouse gas savings criteria set out in RED II (Article 29(2) to (7) and (10)) and to provide the necessary evidence. Examples are used to explain the necessary steps to comply with the criteria for sustainability and greenhouse gas savings.
