Long-term trends in contaminants in freshwater fish (burbot, Lota lota) from Arctic Northwest Territories, Canada

The purpose of this study is to examine long-term trends in contaminant loadings in fish (burbot, Lota lota), to see if concentrations observed in fish are related to atmospheric transport from more southerly areas. As policies have banned the use of these contaminants (i.e., PCBs), or restricted the amount released by industry (i.e., mercury), the fish give long-term information on the efficacy of these regulations. This project is also meant as an on-going examination of the health of fish for the community reliant upon these fish for sustenance, in particular for mercury.
