Oriented on the ambivalent relationship of Catholicism and the modern age this investigation should provide a clear concept of the extent to which and with which speed the Catholic regions of the German Reich were drawn into the push of modernization of the German economy between 1890 and 1914. The data set comprises seven variable groups on the areas population, religious denomination, economy and modernization.
