Innovative wastewater treatment intensification for stringent nitrogen and N2O control

This study develops innovative wastewater treatment technologies to enhance nitrogen removal efficiency and significantly reduce nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions—a potent greenhouse gas. Using rapid redox fluctuations and integrated metagenomics and metabolomics modeling, our approach enables wastewater systems to meet stringent nitrogen discharge regulations, accurately measure emissions, and substantially reduce their carbon footprint.
