Energy and greenhouse gas scenarios for 2030 and 2050

In cooperation with experts from WIFO, CESAR, e-think, AEA, TU Graz and TU Wien, the Federal Environment Agency has created scenarios to show ways to a climate-friendly future in Austria. While the “WEM” baseline scenario is a continuation of previous developments, the “Transition” scenario assumes the energy transition as a socio-political objective. Changing framework conditions, technological innovations and changes in consumer behaviour play a central role in the “Transition” scenario. The results show that the defined framework conditions and potential measures can achieve far-reaching reductions in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 (-81% by 1990). It is also expected to have positive effects on economic growth, employment and income.
