Background Water protection advice

The EC Water Framework Directive (WFD) water protection advice, which has been established in Lower Saxony since 2010, is part of the programme of measures for the implementation of the EC Water Framework Directive. It combines groundwater and surface water protection advice within the target setting. The backdrop covers sub-areas of groundwater and surface water bodies outside drinking water production areas with a need for action with regard to nutrient pollution from diffuse agricultural sources and has been expanded several times under this focus. Included are 10 EC WFD lakes with a need for action with regard to nutrient input.The focus of the consultation is on improving the nutrient efficiency of nitrogen throughout the scene and reducing phosphorus inputs into surface waters. If necessary, this framework can also provide advice on topics such as the water-friendly use of plant protection products, crop-growing water quantity management and the water-friendly management of peatlands.The determination of the agricultural area (UAA) outside drinking water production areas (TGG) is based on the field block data 2021 of the Service Centre for Land Development and Agricultural Promotion (SLA).
