Heat map 2024 - Combined heat and power (CHP)

Under the Energy Efficiency Directive and the Renewable Energy Directive, EU Member States were required to report national figures and plans on heat and cold by the end of June 2024. This is in line with the European Energy Union's strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The main products are maps for the territory of Flanders with the heat demand at the level of the municipalities and the statistical sectors, maps of the existing and planned heat networks and finally also locations of potential heat supply points. The study was carried out by the Flemish Energy and Climate Agency. You can consult the accompanying report here: https://www.vlaanderen.be/building-living-and-energy/green-energy/heat map. This map provides an overview of the active cogeneration installations (CHP) operational in Flanders in 2022 with a high thermal input. These larger CHPs have a higher potential for supplying residual heat than small local installations. The electrical power is represented by five classes.
