Whole-genome sequencing of ESBL- and carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria from an aquarium in the United Arab Emirates

This project investigates the prevalence and genetic basis of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing and carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacteria isolated from an aquarium environment in the United Arab Emirates. Cultured bacterial isolates recovered from animals and associated environmental samples were subjected to whole-genome sequencing to characterize antimicrobial resistance determinants and genomic diversity. The generated sequence data support surveillance and risk assessment of antimicrobial resistance in aquatic and animal-associated environments.
