Host genetics influences gut microbiota over generations in pigs

We carried out a study to demonstrate the impact of the host genetics on gut microbiota established one month post-weaning, by directional selection two pig lines over three generations (G0 to G3). The gut microbiota was characterized by sequencing the V3-V4 variable region of the 16S rRNA gene from faecal samples collected on 60-day-old Large White piglets. A subset of samples from the G0 generation were analysed with a whole-metagenome sequencing approach.
