The Development of Consumption of Primary Energy Carriers and Electric Energy in the World, in the USA and in Germany since 1860 or respectively since 1925

Object of the study is primary energy consumption in the world, in the USA and in Germany broken down to different energy carriers. Due to a comprehensive literature analysis this consumption can be traced back until 1860. For all three regions the development of consumption can be divided in three periods. The first period, from 1860 to 1914, is characterized by a constant increase in consumption in the course of industrialization. The second period from 1914 to 1945 is characterized by strong fluctuations in consumption as a consequence of uncertainty in the political and economic circumstances. The period between 1945 and 1950 acts as a transition period; due to the reconstruction there was no constant development in consumption. Only in the third period which starts in 1950 the development of consumption is steadily due to the relatively stable economic and political framework. Register of tables in HISTAT: 01.
