The Physics of 8 Nearby X-ray Sunyaev-Zeldovich Galaxy Clusters

We propose to obtain resolved Xray temperature maps of three nearby (z < 0.1) Abell clusters; A3827, A3695 and A3911. These maps will complete the XMM and/or Chandra follow up of a luminosity complete sample of eight southern Abell clusters. Weak lensing observations are already available and SunyaevZel.dovich (SZ) observations will be completed during 2002. The SZ observations are being made with the multifrequency ACBAR instrument installed on the Viper telescope at the South Pole. With a complete multiwavelength picture of these eight clusters, we will investigate the physical properties of the intracluster gas(i.e., density and temperature) which are paramount for the interpretation of future Xray and SunyaevZeldovich cluster surveys. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
