Processed aerial images and surface classifications of Arctic sea ice during the TIFAX 2016 and ASIMBO 2018 campaigns north of Greenland
收藏资源简介:
This dataset contains aerial image data of summery Arctic sea ice surfaces acquired with a downward-looking digital camera mounted on the Polar 6 research aircraft during two campaigns north of Greenland: TIFAX 2016 (29 July 2016, “Central flight”; 1 August 2016, “Eastern flight”) and ASIMBO 2018 (1 August 2018, “Western flight”). The naming of the flights follows their relative geographical position in the study region. Included in this dataset are: 1. Brightness corrected RGB images. 2. The corresponding supplementary mask, indicating which pixels were artificially reconstructed during the image processing step that visually removes a tow cable from each image. 3. The final georeferenced and classified images, derived using the algorithm of Fuchs (2023a,b). All technical details on data acquisition and processing are provided in Buth et al. (2025). The processing of this dataset was targeted to enable the analysis presented in Buth et al. (2025), where it was used to investigate melt pond fraction, geometry, and their relationship to sea ice ridges.
