Eider ducks: Autumn stand in the National Park "Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea" (LKN.SH - NPV)

This service-related database for a WFS download service provides from 2009 the occurrence and the number of individuals of eider ducks in autumn and thus maps the population of the resting population in the Wadden Sea. The data come from counting flights in the area of the national park ‘Schleswig-Holsteinisches Wattenmeer’, which are mostly carried out in October, since at this time the autumn migration reaches its maximum. Therefore, the data can be used to estimate a maximum stock number for the population of eider ducks. In addition, the data can inform about the importance and change of the most important rest areas of recent years. Since watercraft and people are recorded in the mudflats at the same time, the occurrence can also be evaluated with regard to potential sources of interference. If possible, this collection is coordinated with the collection of eider ducks in Lower Saxony in order to prevent double counting. This spatial data set of the Eider duck monitoring contains the data of all autumn surveys from the year 2009, so that the variability between the years can be mapped. The data are sightings (individual numbers) along a specific flight route (point data). The data are part of the Trilateral Monitoring and Assessment Program (TMAP).
