GMO cultivation and sensitive areas in Switzerland

In the cultivation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), not only the coexistence of different agricultural production systems plays a role, but also the protection of sensitive areas from unexpected environmental effects. In view of the possible end of the moratorium on genetic engineering in Switzerland, this report lays the foundations for the protection of sensitive areas within the framework of coexistence regulations in Switzerland. To this end, solutions have been developed to protect these areas. The authors analyzed how these can be protected from the potential influences of GMO cultivation, identified open questions and ambiguities in the implementation and developed recommendations for coexistence and protective measures.
