Mature Megakaryocytes Acquire Immune Characteristics in a Mouse Model of Aplastic Anemia

Results: Megakaryocytes gain immune characteristics over the course of murine bone marrow failure; Megakaryocytes with immune characteristics serve as antigen-presenting cells and suppress hematopoietic stem cell function. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate the acquisition of immune functions by mature megakaryocytes in an alloimmune context. We compared transcriptomes of enriched megakaryocytes and other hematopoietic cells from bone marrow failure mice with those from normal control mice.
