Safety, tolerability, and acceptability of Lactobacillus crispatus CTV-05 (LACTIN-V) in pregnant women at high-risk of preterm birth

The study investigated the safety and acceptability of LACTIN-V (Lactobacillus crispatus CTV-05) in 61 pregnant women at high risk of preterm birth (PTB). Administered for five consecutive days and then weekly for six weeks, LACTIN-V demonstrated high compliance (93%) and only 19% reported adverse events. A substantial 97% of participants would use it in future pregnancies. The PTB rate was 3.3% before 34 weeks, lower than the 7% in a historical cohort. The findings suggest that LACTIN-V is safe, well-tolerated, and accepted in pregnancy, indicating the need for further studies to evaluate colonization and clinical efficacy.
