VPRS 11762 Governor's Diaries

This series was created to record the daily activities of a prison governor. The diaries record reports of incidents, prison muster and appointments. Within Pentridge there was a governor responsible for the entire prison but there were also governors responsible for each particular section of the prison ie. Main Gate, Division A, Division B etc. The senior prison officer on duty during night shift was considered to be the acting as governor. For this reason night shift diaries have also been retained permanently. Some governors wrote detailed entries, while others wrote only very brief entries.
