The X-ray luminosity - rotation measure in clusters of galaxies

A powerful tool to learn about the connection of magnetic field andintracluster gas density and temperature is the relation between the Xrayluminosity and the Faraday rotation measure. As a part of a large program basedon the comparison from numerical simulation to observations, we propose toperform a combined Xray/radio analysis of the cluster Abell 514 to determinethis relation with high accuracy and measure its temperature dependence. Thedetermination of the dynamical state of this merger cluster with an extremelydisturbed Xray morphology by means of a temperature map is the second majorgoal of this observation.
