UNVEILING THE NATURE OF HARD X-RAY SELECTED AGN THROUGH XMM-NEWTON SPECTROSCOPY

We propose a 80 ks observation of a sizeable sample of rather peculiar AGNsdetected in the 210 keV band by the HELLAS2XMM survey in the PKS053728 field,for which extensive multiwavelength followup observations (radio, IR, opticaland Chandra) have already been obtained. This sample comprises red quasars,candidate Type 2 quasars, optically blue, Xray absorbed quasars, extremely redobjects, and sources characterized by large Xraytooptical flux ratios. Theprimary goal of this proposal is to obtain good quality Xray spectra of ar^ant number of sources in order to measure key parameters such as Xraycolumn density and iron K_alpha emission lines, and to investigate the linkbetween the Xray and optical properties. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
