Coastal Flood Scenarios - Saipan (2017)

Six coastal flooding scenarios for the island of Saipan, CNMI were mapped using a modified bathtub model approach. This approach was adapted from the geoprocessing steps involved in data preparation for NOAA's Sea Level Rise Viewer. The scenarios reflect 30, 50, and 75 year projections of sea level rise, as well as historically derived sea level extremes. Sea level extremes and projections were derived from historic trend analysis of data from the Saipan tide gauge (1978-2003; Chowdhury et. al 2010) and curve calculations based on NOAA's "High Curve" (U.S. Army Corps Sea Level Curve Calculator & NOAA Technical Report - NOS CO-OPS 083).This data is intended to support planning and policy development for coastal resource managers, land use planners, and regulatory authorities, as well as bolster local climate adaptation and resiliency efforts in the CNMI. The scenario, SLR50_OND_TY, is the adopted flood scenario for the CNMI. Project support was provided by the NOAA Coastal Zone Management Program.
