Cultural Landscape Types of Austria (1997)

The cultural landscape classification of Austria contains defined groups of cultural landscape types (37) on satellite images on a scale of 1:200,000, which are summarized into series of cultural landscape types (12). These are mainly arranged according to the dominant land use system, the cultivated landscapes of the alpine and sub-alpine stage, forest-dominated cultivated landscapes, cultivated landscapes with predominantly grassland use, cultivated landscapes with cereal and fodder cultivation, wine and fruit growing landscapes as well as finally settlement and industrial areas. The content of the cultural landscape typification is based on nature conservation needs, which is clearly reflected in the selected delimitation criteria. These describe the land use, relief, but also the degree of equipment and distribution patterns of landscape elements.
