Biogeographic regions show the extent of areas with common climatic, orographic and geobotanical characteristics.
The Habitats Directive establishes seven biogeographical regions, four of which are present in Spain: Alpine, Atlantic, Macaronesian and Mediterranean.
In addition, this layer includes marine regions: Atlantic, Mediterranean and Macaronesian used in the report of Article 17 of the Habitat Directive.
