Seeing what the human eye cannot see, is one of the great challenges in modern technology. But Infrared detectors make this possible. They are used in many applications, from medical imaging and military visions to environmental monitoring and telecommunications. This research develops a rare class of infrared-sensitive nanomaterials, known as indium antimonide quantum dots. Although these materials have long been recognised for their potential, progress has been limited by difficult and hazardous synthesis methods. By overcoming major barriers in synthesis, stability, and device integration, this work helps our engineer to bring this solution-processable infrared technologies closer to real-world application.
