An obscuring in the radio-loud galaxy 3C 445

The Xray spectrum of the broad line radio galaxy 3C 445 is strikinglyreminiscent of that of radioquiet Seyfert 1s (e.g., NGC 5548) when they areobscured by massive, fast winds located within the boundary of the broad lineregion. We propose a joint XMMNewton (110 ks) and HST program that willdetermine the physical conditions of all the phases (namely FeK and UV/softXray absorption) of the nuclear outflow in this source. This will be the firstcase ever confirmed of an obscuring wind in a radioloud object, with farreaching consequences for our understanding of the role that obscurationepisodes play during the AGN lifetime. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
