Impact of Traumatic Brain Injury on Epileptogenesis and Neuropsychiatric Disorders

When someone experiences a traumatic brain injury (TBI), it can cause lasting debilitating effects on their psychiatric and behavior, and may lead to conditions like epilepsy. This thesis highlights the use and potential of zebrafish as a model of TBI that has translation capabilities that can be utilized for future therapeutic studies. Our study revealed specific inflammation markers in the zebrafish that relates to the TBI-associated changes in the brain and the development of epilepsy, psychiatric and behavioral disorders post-injury.
