VPRS 271 Proceedings Under the Justices Act 1877

Under the Justices of the Peace Act Amendment 1877 any person feeling aggrieved by the summary conviction or order of any justice might apply to have the Supreme Court review the judgment of the Justice of the Peace. The Act specified the procedures to occur in such a case. This means of appeal against the rulings of a Justice of the Peace in a summary jurisdiction became the process of Orders to Review under the Justices of the Peace Act 1887.This series consists of the case files for proceedings taken under these provisions of the Justices Act 1865. Files may contain an Application for Prohibition with supporting affidavits, the statement of the justice as specified by the Act, Orders and Rules made by the Supreme Court, statements of costs and summons to the defendant.
