M2-like macrophages are responsible for collagen degradation through a mannose receptor–mediated pathway

Alexa-647-conjugated collagen (white) and Texas red-conjugated dextran (red) were injected into the dermis of a wild-type mouse approximately 24 hours before imaging. Hoechst (blue) was injected intravenously approximately 5 hours before imaging to visualize nuclei. The dermis was fixed for 4 hours, and subsequently cells were permeabilized before the tissue was wholemount stained for Fizz-1 (green).
