A2-A1 Coercion

A2_A1 Coercion is a systematic experimental comparison of two reinterpretation processes in one and the same linguistic expression. We conducted an acceptability rating and self-paced reading study to investigate the difference between inferring an attitude holder and interpreting the car as animate in structures like (1). (1) The car is in the shade intentionally. We used fictional and non-fictional contexts to test the availability of these two reinterpretation strategies.
