Previous XMM-Newton observations have led to the detection of AGNs in 2 of 3gravitationally lensed Hyper Luminous Infrared Galaxies (HyLIRGs) with apparentIR luminosities >10^14 L_sun while X-ray emission from the third is consistentwith the prediction from its star formation rate (SFR) according to the localcalibration. We propose observations of 6 more such HyLIRGs at z~2.1-3.3 toobtain a statistically meaningful sample of X-ray detections. This sample willenable us to 1) tighten the relation between non-AGN X-ray emission and SFR 2)probe the presence of AGN over the rest-frame 2-35 keV range and 3) determinethe obscuration of AGNs and their potential impact on these extreme galaxies. The results will have strong implications for understanding the star formation and AGN co-evolution.
