In the Free State of Saxony, drinking water protection areas are designated for groundwater collection, including for bank filtrate and infiltrate extraction, as well as for surface water extraction, mainly from drinking water dams. As of 31.12.2023, 16 drinking water protection areas for surface water extraction from dams have been established in Saxony.
