Endoscopically visible Biofilms in Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Inflammatory Bowel Disease

We found intestinal biofilms to be visible during routine endoscopy. Such endoscopically visible biofilms are rare in the healthy population but common in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients. Here we compare bacterial composition between biofilm positive and negative irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients and controls.Sequencing was performed at the Joint Microbiome Facility of the Medical University of Vienna and the University of Vienna under the project IDs JMF-1901-5 and JMF-1910-2.
