PSR J1119-6127 and the Physics of High-Magnetic-Field Neutron Stars

We propose a followup XMM observation of the young, highmagneticfield radiopulsar PSR J11196127. A previous XMM observation revealed Xray pulsations withunusual properties: a thermal spectrum with high temperature, narrow pulseprofile and high pulsed fraction. These characteristics, together with the lackof pulsations at high energies, are unlike those of most other radio pulsarsdetected at Xray energies; the requested observation is required to confirmthem with high confidence. The fact that such emission is present in one of theyoungest radio pulsars which also has a magnetic field close to those ofmagnetars is intriguing, and likely signals phenomena important to our physicalunderstanding of highmagneticfield neutron stars. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
