The hallmark of advanced periodontal lesions is impaired host-microbiome homeostasis which is characterized by prolonged inflammation, decreased microbial diversity and tissue damage. Using an in vivo model of ligature-induced periodontitis in mice, we assessed the effect of oral delivery of Quercetin, a plant-derived flavonoid, on the oral microbial composition within the context of the periodontal disease phenotype.
